Kwara State Govt. Begins Construction Of Underpass To Decongest Traffic

Kwara Governor, Governor AhmedKwara State government has started the construction of a 3.7 billion Naira Geri-Alimi Split Diamond Underpass in Ilorin, the capital city.
The Governor of the State, Mr Abdulfatah Ahmed, said the underpass bridge was part of efforts to decongest traffic.
At the flag off ceremony, Governor Ahmed said the project, to be funded through the newly launched Kwara State Infrastructure Development fund (IF-K), is expected to be completed in 18 months.
The Governor, who toured the area on Wednesday, made his first stop at Geri Alimi roundabout in Ilorin in southwest Nigeria.

Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, yesterday said Nigeria was already coming of the economic recession. Speaking at the end of a two-day National Council of Finance and Economic Development conference held in Abeokuta, Ogun state yesterday September 28th, Adeosun said the measures being taken by the Federal government is an indication that the economy is on its way out of recession.

Shimon Peres, former israeli president, dies at 93, A former Israeli Prime Minister and President, Shimon Peres has been reported dead at the age of 93, after two weeks of suffering a stroke.
Initially the condition improved, before it suddenly took a turn for the worst and he eventually died on Wednesday, after a long battle with his health.
Mr Peres was one of the last of a generation of Israeli politicians, present at the new nation’s birth in 1948.
He served twice as the country’s prime minister and once as president.

Blasts Kill At Least 17 In Baghdad

Baghdad, blastsThree blasts killed at least 17 people and wounded more than 50 in predominantly Shi’ite Muslim districts of Baghdad on Tuesday, police and medical sources said.
A suicide bomber detonated his explosive vest in a commercial street in the eastern Baghdad al-Jadida area of the Iraqi capital, killing nine people and wounding more than 30, they said.
Another suicide attack hit a commercial street of Bayaa in western Baghdad, killing six and wounding 22, the sources said.
A roadside bomb exploded near a gathering of cattle herders and merchants in al-Radhwaniya, also in the same region, killing two people, they said.

Tulsa Shooting: Police Charged With Manslaughter

Officer Betty Shelby shot and killed Terence Crutcher, 40, last week, while he was standing next to his broken-down car.
Court papers filed by Tulsa County said the officer escalated the situation and overreacted, while lawyers confirmed that if convicted, she faces at least four years in prison.
Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler told reporters that although she was charged, she was presumed innocent until a judge determined otherwise.

A prominent Jordanian writer (Pictured left)  was shot dead by a suspected Islamist gunman (Right) on Sunday, September 25th, outside the courtroom where he was due to stand trial for insulting Islam by sharing a cartoon on Facebook.
 
Nahed Hattar, a 56-year-old intellectual from Jordan's Christian minority, was gunned down on the steps of a courthouse in Amman in what appeared to be a religiously motivated attack.

PENGASSAN Threatens Strike Over National Assets Sale

PEngassan, assets saleA leading union of oil workers has threatened to shut down the country if the federal government carries out the plan to sell national assets as a way out of the current economic recession.
The oil workers under the aegis of The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), described the plan to sell the national assets as a self-destructive move.
In a statement, PENGASSAN said that the plan, which is to solve short term financial obligations, is really aimed at handing over Nigeria’s collective common wealth to a few individuals.

Fake Oil Producing Factory In Kwara Discovered And Sealed

 fake engine oilSecurity agencies in Nigeria have discovered and sealed a factory producing fake engine oil off in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.
The discovery was made by the Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in conjunction with the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR).
According to officials of the agency, efforts of the two agencies to trace the buyers of the alleged fake engine oil led to the discovery of another location where adulterated petroleum products were being mixed.
The officials of the NSCDC led by their State Commandant, Pedro Ideba, were in Ogbondoroko in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State accompanied by the state Operations Controller of DPR, Mr Phillips Salvation.

North Carolina Protest: 9 Injured, 44 Arrested In Second Night Of Charlotte

north carolinaAt least nine people were injured and 44 people were arrested during a second night of violent protests in Charlotte, North Carolina, the city’s police chief said on Thursday, following the fatal police shooting of a black man.
One man remained in critical condition after being shot late Wednesday, said Kerr Putney, the chief of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. Police used tear gas, rubber bullets and flash-bang grenades to disperse demonstrators who looted stores and threw rocks, bottles and fireworks.
Officials initially said that the Wednesday victim was shot by a civilian, but on Thursday Putney acknowledged some claims he was shot by a law enforcement officer.

syria2Syrian rebels and pro-government forces battled each other on major frontlines near Aleppo and Hama, and air strikes reportedly killed a dozen people, including four medical workers, as a ceasefire appeared to have completely unraveled.
The renewed battles demonstrated the thin prospects for reviving a truce that collapsed into fresh fighting and bombardments on Monday, including an attack on an aid convoy which U.S. officials believe was carried out by Russian jets. Moscow denies involvement.
The U.N. Security Council was due to hold a high-level meeting on Syria later on Wednesday.

Palestinian Assailant With Knife Shot Dead In West Bank – Israeli Army

palestinanA Palestinian armed with a knife attempted to stab an Israeli soldier at a checkpoint in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday and was shot and killed, the Israeli Army said.
The incident occurred at the entrance to Bani Na’im, a village to the west of Hebron that has been tightly secured by Israeli forces in recent months because of earlier attacks by Palestinians from the area.
The army said the assailant approached a checkpoint with a knife and attempted to stab a soldier. “Responding to the immediate threat, forces fired at the assailant, resulting in his death,” it said in a statement.

Professor Osinbajo believes that no country can lose one million barrels of oil per day without suffering tremendously.
Nigeria’s economy had slipped into recession after a report of the National Bureau of Statistics showed that the nation’s GDP contracted by 2.06% in the second quarter of 2016.
The report came just as militant activities have resurged in the Niger Delta, causing the revenue of the nation which comes largely from crude oil sales to drop.
